Background
Bollywood dance goes back all the way to the roots of Indian classical dance and has moved with the times and has always blended in multiple popular dances. Bollywood dance has an international appeal and it’s best known for it’s footwork, mudras and a continuously evolving nature.
It came into being with Bollywood films in the 20th century, but what we see in films today is a super evolved form of dance. In the 70s, there was an influence of disco, pop music and funk. In the 80s, it was Jazz, funk, Michael Jackson and Hip-Hop. In the 90s upto now, it’s been other forms of Jazz, Belly dancing, Wacking, Afro, Dancehall, House, Popping, Tutting, Robotics and new choreographers pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
We have influences from all over the world in Bollywood, yet it is a genre of it’s own. It has characteristic simple moves, grace and emphasis on clarity and being energetic. Our class is a melting pot of different dance styles like Indian classical dance forms, folk dances, Jazz, Hip-hop, Kathak, Dancehall, Wacking, Semi-classical, House, Breaking.
Great for absolute beginners and Extremely Fun for advanced-level dancers!
